Havana, 13/08/17 – ZIKAlliance, one of three EC-funded Zika consortia (Grant Agreement N.734548), met in Havana last weekend to discuss the ongoing clinical cohort studies in the Americas and the Caribbean, alongside other key topics such as diagnostics, data sharing and biobanking.
Gathering 28 delegates from 11 different countries, the meeting included presentations from the currently enrolling sites in Ecuador, Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, Cuba, Trinidad, and Colombia. Separate internal working sessions were also held to redefine diagnostic strategies, assess the current epidemiological situation, and to consider collaborations with new relevant partners in epidemic areas.
The meeting was arranged during the 15th International Dengue Course at the Pedro Kouri Tropical Medicine Institute in Havana, Cuba, which offered ZIKAlliance’s researchers the opportunity to meet with experts and colleagues working on dengue and other arbovirus research.
ZikaPLAN, another of the two EC-funded Zika consortia, arranged a parallel meeting to ZIKAlliance’s. Common working sessions were held with ZikaPLAN and representatives for ZIKAction related to data sharing, biorepositories, and the implementation of REDe, the EU-funded preparedness network in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The next ZIKAlliance Interim meeting will take place on 23-25 November 2017 in Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe. Here, delegates from all Work Packages will meet to discuss progress after a year from the ZIKAlliance Kick-Off meeting in Sao Paulo, and to agree on future directions and objectives.
